Problem. A UK virtual-assistant agency was running operations across disconnected tools — staff management, client onboarding, time tracking and payroll all lived in different places, with no shared source of truth and no permission model.

Approach. I led the full design phase before any code: a complete 94-page UI/UX design covering 10 functional modules and a 7-role, multi-role permission system. I built the design system end to end — colour tokens, Poppins + DM Sans typography, a component library, 8 shell variants and 10 transactional email templates — plus external client-facing onboarding and feedback screens.

Outcome. A build-ready blueprint: a role-based permission matrix (up to 4 roles per user), a client → project → VA assignment model, a 5-metric performance scoring system with rolling 12-month averages, a 7-phase onboarding checklist and a live timer to replace Toggl — GDPR-conscious by construction. The design has since been approved, and I've been engaged to build it: development starts September 2026 on Next.js, Node/Express, PostgreSQL and Vercel + Railway.

Problem. The African Commission grants NGOs observer status and coordinates with National Human Rights Institutions across the African Union's 55 member states — but the whole process ran on email and a single Word document. Applicants had no structured way to know what to submit, so incomplete applications bounced back again and again; and because some supporting documents take months to assemble, organisations got caught in loops that stretched a process meant to take three months into several years. Reports of human rights abuses arrived the same way — a buried email, a WhatsApp message, a call to whoever you happened to know — so urgent cases could sit unanswered long after they were raised.

Approach. As a Tech Fellow at the African Union, I proposed and led a platform that restructured three broken flows: a guided application intake, so an organisation submits only once it has everything and gets a human review with clear feedback instead of silent rejection; a living repository of NGO and NHRI records that the organisations themselves keep current; and a reporting channel that accepts anonymous submissions and alerts the Commission the moment an abuse report arrives.

Outcome. The design closes the loop that had trapped applicants for years — structured intake and review keep observer-status decisions inside their intended three-month window — while giving the Commission a single, current source of truth for its network and a direct, alerting path for human rights reports. I built the platform and handed it over to the Commission at the end of my fellowship. The work received the AfriLabs Award at the 2022 Annual Gathering in Lusaka.

Problem. A growing Catholic parish needed a proper digital presence and a way to manage a large, active community rather than relying on ad-hoc communication.

Approach. I designed and built the platform end to end on Next.js, Nest.js, PostgreSQL and Prisma in TypeScript — from information architecture through to a deployed, maintainable production system.

Outcome. A live platform now managing 700+ active parishioners, running in production and maintained over time — a real example of taking a community from no system to a dependable one.
